In preparation for the upcoming annual Nordic Days in October, which will take place in Daugavpils, the Nordic countries have increased their presence in this city and in Latgale region. Last week, our office director, Stefan Erikson, and Vadim Murašovs – representative at our regional office in Daugavpils – accompanied team of the Danish Cultural Institute on a visit to Latvia’s second-largest city, meeting with regional partners.

The framework of the Nordic Week was outlined in discussions with Daina Krīviņa, Head of the Development Department of the Daugavpils City Municipality, and Olga Tolmačova, Head of the Investment and International Relations Department, Diāna Soldāne, Director of the Daugavpils City Municipality Institution “Vienības nams”, Astrīda Leščinska, Director of the Culture Palace, Oļegs Šapošņikovs, Chairman of the Board and Artistic Director of the Daugavpils Theatre, Inna Plavoka, Editor-in-Chief of the local independent media “Chayka” Vladislavs Stankevičs, Deputy Chairman of the Latgale Planning Region, and Aivars Baranovskis, Curator of Exhibitions at the Rothko Museum.

Since the official opening of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ office branch in Daugavpils three years ago, close cooperation has been maintained with these and other partner organisations, offering a variety of events and activities for local residents and supporting local projects that agree with the Nordic values. During this visit, the Danish Cultural Institute was represented by its director, Lizaveta Dubinka-Hushcha, and two interns: Frederik Friholt Pilemand Hansen un Anna Lena Raab.

The Nordic Days is a set of annual events organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, the Swedish Embassy, the Norwegian Embassy, the Danish Embassy, the Danish Cultural Institute, and the Finnish Embassy, in collaboration with local regional partner organizations. The Nordic Days had been previously held in Daugavpils in 2016. Last year, the main venue was Bauska. This year, a rich programme is expected filled with cultural, informative, and engaging events. Shortly before the events, information about all the events and activities will be published on our website www.norden.lv, as well as on our social media profiles on Facebook and Instagram.
